Advanced Philips CT systems for the Capital Region of Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced that the Capital Region of Denmark and Philips Denmark have signed an agreement for the delivery of ten Philips IQon CT systems to the hospitals Bispebjerg, Rigshospitalet, Herlev, Gentofte, Hvidovre, Glostrup, Frederiksberg and Bornholm. The new systems will support the hospitals in Capital Region of Denmark to deliver improved diagnostic treatment for their patients while increasing capacity for the coming years.

The IQon CT provides health systems with a more sophisticated diagnostic tool and higher throughput capability. Philips’ pioneering advances in CT are one part of the company’s continuing drive to deliver an increasingly precise diagnosis for each patient. By combining different types of diagnostic information together intelligently in a single patient view, Philips supports clinicians in providing a first-time-right diagnosis.

Instead of using dual source to make spectrally similar images, the IQon delivers true spectral data with its dual-layer detector. Spectral data is always active on all scans, eliminating the need for protocol changes before scanning, saving time and reducing the need for re-scans.

This technology has the potential to make an important contribution to achieving the so-called ‘quadruple aim’ of healthcare: improving the patient experience with its low X-ray dose; improving the staff experience by simplifying workflow; enhancing health outcomes by enabling clinicians to better identify the different types of tissue in the body at high resolution; and lowering the cost of care by reducing the need for rescans. The distinctive workflow of the IQon scanner may reduce the number of re-scans by up to 25%.
