Beats all alternativesAfter three treatments my legs are nearly completely hair free and armpits and bikini area are patchy but getting there.
You need to think of this product as just another method of hair removal ie. you will need to keep using it and results aren't permanent. BUT you get absolutely no regrowth in between treatments, so no stubble or ingrown hairs, and hopefully you won't need to use it as often as you waxed etc.
I'm afraid I can't comment on how often you need to use it in the long term, because I'm still in the initial stages. When you first get the Lumea, you reach the joyous NO HAIR stage by using the Lumea 5 times, once every two weeks. In between the treatments you shave any hair that grows.
In theory, after those 5 intro treatments, you don't have any more hair to shave and you just top up the treatment every one or two months to make sure you never see another hair on your body.
I have just this second finished treatment number 4, and I have been using it for underarms, legs and a brazillian landing strip style bikini.
Treating the armpits and the bikini area is a doddle and takes just a few minutes. Doing the legs feels pretty tedious. I would have given up on the legs after the first treatment had it not turned out to be the most successful treatment area.
It does seem to work most effectively on the finer hairs of the legs, which for me are now almost completely hair free. The thing to remember is that you shave, then you zap, and the hair regrows and sheds later on. So you can't see the effects of your latest treatment for a week or two.
Regards the bikini area- it's looking nicely patchy and there's only a few hairs on the 'front area', but the 'undercarriage' area does seem to be a bit more stubborn. Having said that, I do find it a little sensitive and feel a bit weird about zapping my lady parts so tend to lower the setting to 3 (5 everywhere else). Also the skin tends to be a bit more pigmented down there too.
(If you are planning to go brazilian/hollywood style, remember to be fairly conservative- no inner labia/a nus moments as per Lumea instructions which advise sticking clear of mucus membranes.)
It's not painful but you can feel a zap sometimes, particularly I find in the bikini area.
All in all, after having seen the results of just three treatments, I really do think this is me sorted for life. I never could reconcile the cost of waxing with the effect wearing off after two days and then having to deal with horrible bikini regrowth.
I also like the fact that any regrowth is greatly reduced, but that in the long term all the hair would probably grow back if you wanted it to. Not sure I'm ready for permanent lady baldness.

It really works! After following the instructions and doing this 3 times i've already seen results. It also only takes 15-20 minutes for each leg so it's easy to do while watching TV and the time goes by fast. I'd recommend this product to anyone looking to get rid of unwanted hair.

Works Really Well!I bought my IPL over a year ago, used it as instructed and it works well.
I am dark blonde with fairish skin but i do eventually tan. I have very hairy legs and underarms with around 3 hairs per follicle. I must admit i was not expecting any results with an IPL System but was pleasantly surprised!
I do have to use it every two weeks on my underarms or they start to grow back but my bikini line and legs are once a month. I also use to get really bad ingrowing hairs around my bikini line but that is now a thing of the past.
IPL is completely painless compared to waxing and epilating, which have been my previous hair removal methods in the past.
My friend is also paying a small fortune by going to a beauty saloon to have the same treatment done professionally, over the year we have been comparing results between us and there has hardly been any difference in hair growth, just that hers has now cost her more.
My only tiny moan is the rechargeable battery, it does not seem to last that long, then my IPL would not charge after a year (maybe by battery was not good from the start), but Phillips where amazing and totally honored their two year guarantee and changed it immediately, due to their great customer care i will probably only buy Phillips products from now on! Thank you Phillips and do not just think about it give one a try!!!

it is not working for meI mostly do not write criticism on products. In this case I decided that I shared my experience with a device because it was very expensive and unfortunately not as effective as it was promised in the description. Last year, in October, I bought this product and used exactly as directed. I am darkly blonde with light skin and dark hair, so the machine should work perfectly on me. Even after half a year I can say that I did not notice big difference. With regret can not phillips Lumena recommended.

LOVE LOVE LOVE...turned my life aroundAs a young woman, I have struggled with excess hair growth for most of my adult life and after shaving and hair removal creams left my hair growing back thicker and more course than ever, I decided to try a more permanent alternative.
I purchased the Philips Lumea a week before Christmas and have used as instructed every 2 weeks since, with dramatic results.
After just 2 applications to my chest and facial areas, the hair has completely stopped re-growing.
After 4 applications to my legs, 90% of the hair has been removed.
My hair is very dark and my skin very pale, so I was the perfect candidate for this machine. I have used this on a number 4 setting and it can sometimes sting when in use, but for me this was momentary and I didn't suffer from any redness or soreness afterwards.
I couldn't recommend this enough. Although it is pricey, it's a drop in the ocean compared to the confidence I have regained.
VERY HAPPY LADY :):):):):):)

Not workingUnfortunately there is no reduction in my hair growth. I have light skin and dark hair and have used it on level 5. My facial hair is now stubbly and more noticebale than before which I'm really unhappy with. My legs and underarm hair is no better. Such a shame as for the price I had expected more. Now wish I had put the money towards salon treatment.
Also I can only manage to do, chin, underarms and one lower leg before the charging light comes on. So end up doing one leg one day and then the other the following day!

Faulty unit?I have been perservering with this product for 2 years. And I can honestly say I have seen no improvement. I am also a perfect candidate as I have pale skin and dark hairs. I expected to see similar comments here but as I don't maybe I have a faulty unit. Either way, an expensive waste of time. And now I am off to get laser hair removal as that does work..
